Yay! So I finally finished my first book in almost 5 weeks. Though it was a fluffy romance, it was a good stepping stone back into reading.
So basically the story is about Allison Jennings who, as a single mum with a genius for a son, has the worst possible life. Crummy apartment. Crummy car. Crummy job. You get the idea. So her socialite friend Bunny (I know) decides to help her by dragging her to the Nedlands family annual Fourth of July celebration. Dex Nedlands III and Allison have instant chemistry but somehow they get the feeling that they know each other from before.
It didn’t take me long to figure out how the cliché storyline played out. It’s a good fluff read because of the verbal exchange between the two leads. Also noteworthy characters would have to be Bunny and Grandmother Tutu (again, I know). But they’re just pure fun to read. The author tried to put in this overprotective obsessive mother who turned out to be just an overly worrisome mother. The character just came out all wrong. I don’t even feel remotely threatened by the supposed villain. AND it only took me 2 PARAGRAPHS to figure out her motive and intentions. Right from the start of the book. Then there’s the son Ethan. He’s too much of a creeper a little too understanding and mature for a 10 year old kid. Character development is passable at best. It was as if the author intended the other characters to ninja themselves in when appropriate and disappears somewhere else for they are not needed.
While I recommend this to anyone looking for a ridiculously light read, there really isn’t much to shout about except for the wit Allison and Bunny possessed and Dex being his weird geeky self. Which is basically what the entire book is made of really.
A/N: that’s one book crossed off the reading list =)
